The Wedding Dress
Auto Images

Fatima is dying, Anna is waging war against time and Dame Blanche is on her way back to Mexico. The Wedding Dress is an embroidering road movie across three continents. A universal yet pressing story of love, family and violence that unfolds as we follow the desires of an alter ego to become a most peculiar wedding dress.

Dame Blanche is the big satin duchesse fabric that Fatima, my second mother gave me one afternoon in her sundrenched appartement in Casablanca, meant to become my wedding dress. It never did. Abuse and violence, shame and rootlessness –the reverse of love will continue to be a ruthless repetition unless you make your own wedding dress. Maybe. But there it was one day as I woke, the vision of her, Dame Blanche, filled with beautiful, colourful stitches turning my wounds into ornaments.

The meetings of Anna as she seeks embroidering women is a cathartic and intimate journey, it is one woman's idea of a new dream of freedom and conviction that only beauty can change the world.
