What memory do we choose to forget and can we belong without language? Can home be somewhere without a place? What happens when you realise the dream of home belongs to a community who have stopped dreaming? Can you revive the dream?
From daybreak into the night, punctuated by the silence found behind the hills, Swedish-French auteur Anna Senno lends her voice to portray the traffic of a lone tope, a speed bump, on a narrow highway in the cactus desert of Zapotitlán Salinas, Puebla, Mexico.
A letter to home and the contrasted sequences of people and vehicles, all slowing down to cross this tope, merge personal and collective realities into a choreography about time, memory, and belonging. We enter the trajectory of a world unraveling.
El Tope is a film and an installation about the sacred and political reality of a dream.
